Today, I want to share our cabin tour of our obstructed balcony cabin on MSC Virtuosa, this is a great value option if you are cruising but do not want to overspend on a balcony cabin.
When we recently took a two-night taster cruise on MSC, it was most probably a mistake as it didn’t inspire us to sail with MSC again. But that’s a whole other story. And yes, we can confirm that taster cruises do not shed a good light on a cruise line—quite the opposite. I would go as far as to say they can put you off cruising altogether. However, despite that, MSC Virtuosa is a beautiful ship with a lot of great qualities.

We booked an inside cabin as this was a short sailing, but then decided to put in a bid to upgrade to an obstructed balcony cabin; this cost us £120, so it was well worth the extra to have a little outside space. I especially like to open the balcony doors as we enjoy a morning coffee, thus a balcony cabin would always normally be our first choice. So was thrilled to bag an upgrade. On this tour we will try to answer all the little stateroom questions you may have when you are planning your next MSC cruise cabin.

Our Obstructed Balcony Cabin Was Cabin 10030
The Cabin Was A Comfortable Size
The MSC Virtuosa balcony cabins are a great size with a dressing area and sofa. This would be great for a longer cruise as they have a sitting area. Staterooms with a sitting area feel so much more spacious for longer cruises.
Lights And USB Chargers By Each Side of the Bed
Having a reading light and USB port in the light is such a massive perk of modern cruise ships. Plug sockets are few a far between, so this makes all the difference being able to charge via USB lead.
Plenty of Hanging Space in the Wardrobe
There is enough hanging space for a week’s cruise, plus shelving up the side of the wardrobe. There isn’t much space between the sofa and the sliding wardrobe door, but it’s manageable.
With Shelving, Drawers and a Safe
Our MSC obstructed balcony cabin also has a safe in the closet. This isn’t big enough for a laptop, but it has plenty of space for keeping passports, wallets and jewellery safe and in one place. There was also shelving and drawers. Plus, room to stow the cases under the bed.
Vanity Area with Tea and Coffee Facilities and a Kettle
I am unsure if this is because we were sailing out of the UK. But the cabin had a kettle and tea and coffee supplies, which was super handy in the morning. I can’t function without coffee, so being able to make one straight away was a real bonus. The vanity unit also had three additional electricity outlets. Drawers for storage and a hairdryer, now I am super fussy about dryers, and this ship dryer had enough power to dry my hair well, some are so slow.
An Option For Room Service Breakfast
Room service has a £4 delivery fee and offers a choice of continental options, such as tea, coffee, and fruit. It is well worth the delivery charge to avoid the chaotic buffet restaurant.
Beach Towels Are Provided in the Cabin
Pool and beach towels are left in your cabin, where they will be replaced daily. However, make sure you leave it in your cabin on the last day as you will be charged if not.
There is a Pay Mini Bar
If you fancy in-cabin drinks or snacks, there is also a stocked mini-bar. There were no prices in the cabin; you had to go on the app for prices.
Laundry Prices on MSC Virtuosa
MSC offers a full laundry service which is great for longer cruises. I always get shirts ironed onboard. It saves so much messing, ironing, and packing beforehand. Prices include…..
- Shirt Ironing £4.90, wash and iron £5.90
- Trousers £4.90, wash and ironing £5.90
- Evening dress £9.90, wash and iron £10.90
A Great Size Bathroom with a Corner Shower
The bathroom on MSC Virtuosa has one of the largest showers I have seen in a balcony cabin. It was fresh and clean and shower gel. hand soap and shampoo were provided. The shower had great power and there is plenty of storage.
Our Obstructed Balcony
Now, yes, this balcony is obstructed, as in it is metal all the way around and quite enclosed. But I really liked the balcony and would choose this style of balcony again.
Our Balcony Cabin in Short
This is a big ship, so if you do not mind the walk to get to the central areas of the ship, then this is a great option to get a balcony bargain. Our stateroom and balcony were of a great size and were comfortable. Whether I cruise on MSC again remains to be seen, but it certainly wont be the cabins putting me off.
