Get ready for an exciting initiative from NASCAR driver Erik Jones! His foundation is taking center stage with a unique 5K event, and you won't want to miss it!
The Story Behind the Race
In the quaint town of Ovid, Michigan, a special event is about to unfold. The Erik Jones Foundation, founded by the renowned NASCAR driver, is hosting its inaugural Burnin' Rubber 5K Run and Walk at the Owosso Speedway. This event, scheduled for November 8th, promises to be a thrilling experience for runners and walkers alike, all while supporting some incredibly worthy causes.
A Race with a Heart
The proceeds from this race will directly benefit the foundation's mission, which focuses on three vital areas: childhood literacy, early cancer detection, and animal welfare. Erik Jones, a Michigan native, has a personal connection to these causes. He started the foundation in 2021, and since then, he's been making a difference in his community and beyond.
Erik's Journey and Impact
Jones' journey with his foundation began at the 2021 Back to the Bricks event, where he made a significant donation to the Genesee District Library. He's also made a lasting impact on his hometown of Byron by donating a book vending machine to the local elementary school during March is Reading Month in 2023. But here's where it gets personal: Jones has a deep love for reading, a passion he's had since childhood. Sadly, his father, Dave, passed away from cancer in 2016, and he grew up with pets, which further inspired his dedication to these causes.
The Race Details
The 5K course is a unique experience, starting and finishing on the speedway itself. Participants will receive specially designed finisher medals, and age group awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each run division. The race is $40 for adults until October 31st, after which the price increases to $45. Children 12 and under can join in the fun for free, but adult supervision is required. Additionally, a Kids Run will take place at 11 a.m., giving young ones the chance to run one lap around the speedway's track.
How to Get Involved
Registration for the 5K is now open online, and it's easy to sign up. If you're interested in becoming a sponsor for this event, you can find more information on the Erik Jones Foundation website.
